DAY 05

18 And Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.” 19 And the angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. 20 And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.”
Luke 1:18-20
Zechariah heard the word from the angel but doubted if the message was true. Zechariah’s faith in what God could do was covered by the shadow of his natural understanding of things. Although Zechariah was a priest, who is considered highly knowledgeable of Scripture and was well known for his walk of integrity, his faith was put to the test, and his unbelief is on display for us to see. God was just to respond to Zechariah’s objection to His word. God prevented Zechariah from speaking a word until His plan was fulfilled.

You see, many Christians who claim to know and follow Jesus are apt to dishonor Him in unbelief. And it is in our unbelief we find ourselves standing confused, silent, and without words. Otherwise, we would worship Him in joy and gratitude. So can you see now the patience God has towards you and me? God is gracious with us, and we need to daily recognize and be thankful for the compassion He continues to pour out on us. His word is true. Don’t question it. Lay your mind and understanding down before Him, and trust Him with your heart.
Thank you, God, for your grace and putting up with me daily. Help me, Jesus, to trust your Word when it doesn’t make sense. I believe but help my unbelief (Mark 9:24).
